My Top 18 Albums of 2018

While all of the big outlets have already shared their Top Albums lists, I’ve been sifting through my own picks trying to order them as best as I can. I found this process to be a lot easier last year, but it was also a lot harder to choose a top 5 since there was so much amazing music that came out last year. This year was definitely not as good for music (in my opinion) but there’s still a ridiculous amount of amazing tunes that came out this year.

Fall Music Preview

Fall brings an exciting time for new music! On top of the ridiculous amount of tours that kick-off during this time of year, we get to hear new albums from a handful of artists looking to make their mark on the last few months of the year before 2019 begins (how scary is the fact that we’re approaching the end of 2018?!)

Show Review: Females in Music – Dagny at the Subterranean and Sunflower Bean at Lincoln Hall

As 2018 continues, I’m happy to say that it’s May and I’ve continued writing about every show I’ve attended this year. It’s no easy feat and trying to find time to write about my experiences takes a lot of will power – but I’m going to try really hard to keep going! I Recently I had the chance to attend another two concerts in Chicago – the first was a show from Norwegian pop singer Dagny featuring support from Baum (one of my current faves) at the Subterranean in Wicker Park – and New York natives Sunflower Bean at Lincoln Hall with support from female rockers Dream Wife.

If you’re no stranger to my blog, you know that I focus a lot of my free time on Chicago’s Lollapalooza festival. I’ve written countless posts on my experiences at the festival as well as numerous posts predicting the lineup.

After attending the festival for the fifth time in 2017, I found myself wondering if I would come back for another 4 days. I was beyond exhausted and ready to head back to the real world where I could make my own meal and go to the bathroom in anything but a port-a-potty. But who am I kidding? I knew the second that rumors started flying, I would be back for the sixth year.

10 Upcoming Shows To See In Chicago

spiritnight-3

Hello again! I’m back with a new post about some upcoming performances in Chicago that I think are worth checking out. I’ve narrowed it down to ten for the sake of clarity and I tried to keep the shows upcoming in February and early March. I will definitely do another post for shows coming once Spring is finally here since there’s always new shows in Chicago worth talking about.

Show Review: Yoke Lore Shines at Schubas

My first show of 2018 came and went in just about an hour. I ventured to Schubas Tavern – a small bar in Lakeview whose back room has a capacity of just 165 – to see one of my favorite rising acts of the moment, Yoke Lore. Adrian Galvin, the brains behind the operation – had a busy 2017. He toured with acts like Aquilo and Overcoats, released his second EP, Good Pain, and even had a debut performance at SXSW last March. Despite his past projects performing in Walk The Moon and Yellerkin, Galvin seems most at home performing under Yoke Lore.
