10 Spring Album Releases To Get Excited About

Faded Fall

Even though I just did one of these posts back in January (read it here) – I knew I had to do an updated version since there is so much amazing good music coming at us within the next couple months! I could have included many other albums in this post but I narrowed it down to the 10 albums I’m looking forward to the most. Thanks for reading!

In order of release date:

Kacey Musgraves Golden Hour

Genre: Country Pop
Release Date: March 30
Why You Should Get Excited: It’s not every day that I will endorse a country artist – but I’ve loved Kacey Musgraves for almost three years and really admire her work and activism for women in country music. For super fans: you can stream her album ahead of its release here.

The AcesWhen My Heart Felt Volcanic

Genre: Indie Pop
Release Date: April 6
Why You Should Get Excited: Not only have The Aces been creating consistently good music since their debut single “Stuck,” but they’ve been touring nonstop to promote their debut album, supporting acts like Joywave, Coin and X-Ambassadors. It’s time for these ladies to stand in the spotlight with their debut album coming from Red Bull Records.

Tom MischGeography

Genre: Indie R&B
Release Date: April 6
Why You Should Get Excited: Tom is making music that sounds like nobody else out there right now, and has gained quite the internet following at just 22-years-old. He will be performing at Coachella in just a couple weeks and has a tour stop in Chicago at the end of April (sadly, already sold out. Even I was too late to grab tickets).

Bishop BriggsChurch Of Scars

Genre: Indie Soulpop
Release Date: April 20
Why You Should Get Excited: Bishop has been paving the way for herself in the music industry for many years – I remember first stumbling upon her songs “River” and “Wild Horses” a little over two years ago – read my post featuring her in 2016 here. After countless festival appearances and tours with Coldplay, Kaleo and Bleachers, she’s embarking on her own headlining tour this spring to promote her debut album (Chicago’s date is already sold out).

Leon BridgesGood Things

Genre: R&B Soul
Release Date: May 4
Why You Should Get Excited: Leon’s debut album, Coming Home, was a huge hit in June 2015 – with the lead single “Coming Home” being a viral hit on Spotify and helped him earn a spot on the television hit Big Little Lies. He’s set to tour with Harry Styles in South America at the end of May and will be embarking on a North American headlining tour this fall. Click here to get tickets to his show in Chicago.

Mating RitualLight Myself on Fire

Genre: Indie Rock
Release Date: May 4
Why You Should Get Excited: I’ve been following Ryan Marshall Lawhon of Mating Ritual for awhile – thanks to Spotify, of course – and am super excited to see that they’re releasing a full length album. They have a lot of super catchy tracks like “I Wear Glasses” and “Second Chance” and I’m honestly not too sure why they aren’t more famous than they are. Let’s get them some promo and listen to the album in May!

Middle Kids / Lost Friends

Genre: Indie Rock
Release Date: May 4
Why You Should Get Excited: Middle Kids has been on my list of ones to watch for over a year at this point – after landing on the Lolla lineup last year, I became infatuated with their indie rock sound reminiscent of Haim with the edginess of a rock band. Their EP has been on repeat for too long and I’m ready for new music! Grab tickets to their show at Lincoln Hall in June – I need someone to go with!

James Bay / Electric Light

Genre: Pop/Rock
Release Date: May 18
Why You Should Get Excited: Two British musicians that I was obsessed with in 2014 & 2015 are back  – George Ezra (his album was just released last week) – and James Bay. James Bay’s debut album was a solid body of work that established him as a performer and it seems odd to me that he took this long to create a follow-up, but I think he’s going to deliver a really great sophomore album. I’m not too into the second single, “Pink Lemonade,” but I do really enjoy “Wild Love.”

Now, NowSaved

Genre: Indie Pop
Release Date: May 18
Why You Should Get Excited: I feel like Now, Now was one of those bands that I kept seeing pop up everywhere and I had no idea that they’re as popular as they actually are – they even have a tiny desk concert (click here to watch it). I’ve been listening to their song “SGL” on repeat for months now. After a little digging, I discovered that their last full length album was released in 2012 – which seems like lightyears ago. Needless to say I’ll be looking forward to this release.

ChvrchesLove is Dead

Genre: Electronic
Release Date: May 25
Why You Should Get Excited: Who doesn’t love Chvrches? Their last album, Every Open Eye, was definitely one of my favorites ever and I’m so excited for them to come back with another amazing album! It’s been 2.5 years – I’m over waiting.

Are you looking forward to an album release that wasn’t included in this post? Let me know in a comment below – I’m always on the hunt for new music.

– Kristin
