Met Gala 2015: Best Dressed

While sports fans live for the super bowl and music fans worship the Grammys, fashionistas count down the days until the Met Gala. The annual ball kicked off this past Monday in New York City, celebrating the start of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s yearly Costume Institute.

Since this year’s theme of “Chinese Whispers: Tales of the East in Art, Film, and Fashion” was announced earlier this year, there was some controversy around the theme and whether or not attendees were going to completely ruin it (writer Kara Brown feared the red carpet would be a “shit show”).

However, there was a lot of positive feedback about the outfits seen throughout the night. Below are some of my favorite looks I saw on this year’s red carpet:

gold

Candice Swanepoel, Kate Hudson, Beyonce.

I really like all three of these looks for three different reasons. I love fashion because there’s always a million different ways to look at the clothing and there’s never a dull moment. I love the way that Candice’s fits her and it’s a really flattering dress. Since I am pretty pale, I tend to stay away from nude color clothing just because I fear that it will wash me out. However, I think Candice can definitely rock the color and gives me more confidence to try and do the same! I really love Kate’s overall styling. Since there is a high neckline on the dress, I like that she balanced it with wearing her hair up, and I love the color of her lipstick. If you look closely at the dress, it really has beautiful detailing: at first glance, it looks like another sparkly, gold dress, but once you look close enough, you see how beautiful it really is. Beyonce can do no wrong in my opinion, so the crazy Twitter responses to this dress were rightfully Tweeted. This dress is probably one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen and I can’t imagine how gorgeous it must be in person. I love that she wore her hair up, which gave more attention to the dress. Despite it being a little risque, it’s modest enough to still be considered classy (at least to me)!

pink

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Kerry Washington, Kim Kardashian

When I first saw Rosie’s gown, I originally didn’t really like it. However, the more I looked at it, the more it grew on me. Although a lot of women wore similar colors to this one, I liked this dress specifically because it was different and it stood out. The asymmetry is awesome and probably one of my favorite dresses of the night. Kerry Washington always looks absolutely flawless, and ths dress was no exception. It did remind me of Taylor Swift’s gown from last year, but only because of the color and the similar train. The color looks amazing on Kerry’s skin. Now, Kim. I have seen a lot of people bashing Kim’s dress because it apparently looks too similar to a gown that Beyonce wore, but I actually like Kim’s better! Kim later cleared the air, stating that her Cher was her fashion inspiration for the night.

Amanda Seyfried, Kendall Jenner, Lorde

I am so obsessed with Amanda’s dress, I think it may be my favorite one of the night. Although details on the hip area of a dress can cause some distraction, I think this works perfectly, probably because it’s just all one color. I love the cut on top as well. Kendall looks gorgeous and a majority of the time, I really don’t like that color green for dresses, but it just works for her. I like the simple hair as well. Lorde tends to dress very simple and modestly, and almost always in black. I like that she changed it up a bit with this blue dress, but stayed true to her style with the dark colors and long sleeves. Definitely one of my favorites!

Gigi Hadid, Zendaya, Cara Delevingne

Gigi is my ultimate woman crush and this is definitely one of my favorite looks that I’ve seen on a red carpet in a long time. Wearing a red dress on a red carpet could be tricky, but her glowing skin really stood out in this gown and she looks so beautiful! Zendaya looks absolutely STUNNING in this dress and I love how it looks costume-y but still so fashionable! I wish I could pull this outfit off as well as she can. And last but not least, Cara. I was caught off guard at first when seeing this outfit because I’m pretty sure she doesn’t have tattoos! Then after some quick research, I found out that she got temporary tattoos for the event. I like that she went against the grain and didn’t wear a dress and opted for this really cool jumpsuit. It’s simple, but the makeup and red tattoos make it stand out.

What were your favorite looks at the Met Gala?
